Labor Denounces Loblaw Warehouse Closure

The union representing workers at a Loblaw warehouse that closed accused the retailer of providing an inadequate severance agreement.

SUDBURY, Ontario — The union representing workers at a Loblaw [2] warehouse that closed this month accused the retailer of providing an inadequate severance agreement. Loblaw, based in Brampton, Ontario, closed the National Grocers warehouse here April 24.

The Retail Wholesale and Department Store Union, which represents about 125 laid-off workers at the plant, said in a statement that Loblaw was providing them only with minimum legal severance — less than management staff, and less than workers at other warehouses closed by Loblaw.
