TORONTO — Loblaw Cos. here told local media last week it will reorganize its operations in Quebec by banner, with plans to name separate division heads for each of its three banners in the province — Loblaw, Maxi and Provigo.
It currently divides the 400 stores in Quebec, along with distibution centers, into three segments based on geography.
The company also told the Montreal Gazette it plans to convert 2,000 part-time jobs in Quebec to full-time positions and to convert 25 of its corporate-owned Provigo stores in the province to franchised locations.
Company officials denied the moves were related to the impending entry of Wal-Mart Supercenters into Quebec. “It's a pivotal year for us in Quebec on a lot of levels,” Jocyanne Bourdeau, executive vice president for Loblaw's Quebec operations, was quoted as saying. "We are here to stay and prosper."
