SUNBURY, Pa. — Weis Markets  here on Monday said that sales increased 3.5% and earnings were up 0.9% for the 13-week second quarter, which ended June 25.
Sales were $676.7 million for the period, and same-store sales increased by 5.1% as Weis benefited from three new stores, operational improvements at the store level and improved administrative expense management. Net income increased to $20.5 million. In the same period last year, Weis posted a 35% increase in earnings.
For the 26-week period, Weis’ sales increased 1.4% to $1.34 billion while comparable-store sales increased 2.8%. Year-to-date net income is up 3.7% to $39.3 million.
