USDA Orders Beef Recall Due to E. Coli Contamination

WASHINGTON — S&S Foods, a beef processor based in Azusa, Calif., yesterday recalled more than 153,000 pounds of frozen ground beef patties that may be contaminated with E. coli. The U.S. Department of Agriculture [2] told the company that the products are responsible for 11 reported illnesses. USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Services [3] said that the products — which bear the establishment number 20375 inside the USDA mark of inspection, and a case code beginning 06238 — had been shipped to distribution centers in Milwaukee, Wis., and Allentown, Pa.
