ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Wegmans Food Markets , a pioneer in pushing healthier eating, illustrates in a video how easy it can be done.
The chain has long included instructive videos on its website, and one of the most recent is dubbed, “Half-Plate Healthy.”
On the video, registered dietitian Jennifer Felice, the chain’s corporate nutritionist, explains the benefits of the “half-plate” method.
“There are no measuring cups or counting calories, and you can eat anything you want,” Felice says. “All that’s required is to fill your plate halfway up with fruit, veggies or salad.”
Photographed in front of a salad bar, and a prepared-food case, Felice tells viewers that a plate with two slices of pepperoni pizza adds up to 1,020 calories. Conversely, a plate with one pepperoni pizza slice, and the other half of the plate filled with fruit salad, adds up to just 570 calories.
A whole plate of spaghetti and meatballs with half a cup of vegetables, she says, totals 840 calories, but if half the plate is filled with salad, the calorie count drops to 520.
