Whole Foods Launches Resolution Facebook Application

A new Whole Foods Market Facebook application encourages users to choose one of three food-related mantras that best describes their goal for the coming year, while pledging support for a related non-profit organization.

AUSTIN, Texas — A new Whole Foods Market Facebook application encourages users to choose one of three food-related mantras that best describes their goal for the coming year, while pledging support for a related non-profit organization.

Whole Foods' Facebook fans are encouraged to update their Facebook status with one of the following aspirations.

• “This is my year to know where my food comes from” for The Non-GMO Project.

• “This is my year to choose organic” for Mission Organic 2010.

• “This is my year to share my plate” for GrowingPower.

Throughout January, Facebook fans can “vote” for their favorite mantra and related non-profit by updating their status. Each of the three groups will receive a $10,000 donation from Whole Foods and its partners Health Magazine and Odwalla. The non-profit receiving the most votes will receive an additional $10,000.

“Small, simple steps are the best way to enjoy healthy eating and living well on a budget, and we hope our shoppers will share their aspirations and ideas with others through the new ‘This is my year to…’ Facebook application,” said Barry Hirsch, Whole Foods Market program coordinator, in a statement. “Collectively, our shoppers will also be supporting three terrific non-profit organizations.”

Whole Foods will highlight five more of its favorite mantras for the New Year through promotions and materials in-store and online. They are Eat My Greens, Know My Food, Learn to Cook, Save Without Compromise and Make Simple Changes. In addition, stores will host tours to help educate shoppers about healthy food choices, with emphasis on fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains.

Shoppers can also share their personal aspirations in-store where Whole Foods Market Team Members will post customer declarations in a community area.
