Bristol Farms Tests Wok Station

CARSON, Calif. — Bristol Farms here unveiled a hot wok Asian fusion station at a remodeled store that opened Wednesday in Newport Beach, Calif.

Customers can fill a bowl with vegetables, sprouts and a protein — beef, chicken, tofu or noodles — and hand it to a chef, who cooks the ingredients and hands the finished dish back to the customer. Dishes are priced at $7.99 or $8.99, depending on the protein. A spokesman said Bristol Farms is testing the hot wok station at the Newport store before deciding whether to add it to other locations.

In addition to the hot wok station, the store also offers a salad bar, a soup bar, a made-to-order sandwich station and a wood-stone pizza oven — all of which were added to the remodeled store, though most of those offerings are available at other Bristol Farms locations.

The 24,000-square-foot Newport Beach store also features the 13-store chain's most extensive selection of wine and micro beers — a 1,200-square-foot section, with products expanded by 20% and displayed from floor to ceiling in one corner of the store.

Bristol Farms is about to begin remodeling its store in Long Beach, which it hopes to have completed by Thanksgiving, the spokesman said.
