WESTBURY, N.Y. — Some union workers at A&P [3] stores are reaching out to state officials with concerns over their negotiations for a new contract with the distressed retailer.

Representatives of United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1500 here met with U.S. Sen. Kristen Gillibrand, D-N.Y., last week and wrote to state congressional and New York City Council members reminding them that its goal is to "allow [A&P] to recover and grow economically while protecting the rights and livelihoods of our members working in their stores."

A&P employs more than 30,000 union workers and is scheduled to resume negotiations Wednesday.
