SAN JOSE, Calif. — Wal-Mart Stores has launched a test of home delivery of groceries in this market.

SAN JOSE, Calif.Wal-Mart Stores [3] has launched a test of home delivery of groceries in this market.

The new service, called Walmart to Go, debuted on Saturday, offering free delivery for the first order. Subsequent deliveries cost $5 per order, according to the website for the service.

Offerings include a wide array of product, including fresh fruits and vegetables, meats, dairy products, shelf-stable grocery products, frozen foods, HBC products, baby care needs ands household items. The produce items appear to be fairly limited, and lean toward pre-packaged product.

According to a report in The New York Times, Wal-Mart is picking the groceries from a store in San Jose and delivering them itself in its own trucks.

SN reported earlier this month that the company could be considering such a test.
