ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — Tops Friendly Markets has opened a new, more upscale banner here called Orchard Fresh, focusing on gourmet, specialty and prepared foods . The store, measuring 30,000 square feet, also focuses on natural and organic product and has an eye toward health and nutrition , with solutions for specific diets. Included in the store are a wood-fired pizza oven and a broad array of gourmet, prepared foods. “We’re confident that Western New Yorkers will enjoy the tastes, aromas, textures and sensations that can only be found at Orchard Fresh,” said Kevin Donovan, director of Orchard Fresh. “Whether guests are looking for an indulgent culinary experience, or want to find foods that fit into a specific diet or lifestyle, Orchard Fresh will inspire the food lover in everyone.”

Written descriptions and “staff picks” in the cheese assortment call attention to Orchard Fresh’s culinary expertise.</p>
Orchard Fresh offers a broader selection of perishables than traditional Tops stores, with reduced offerings in dry grocery.

Local beers — including a staff pick from Brooklyn Brewery at the other end of the state — are offered, along with a range of imports.</p>
Bulk foods and “healthy snacks” adjacent to the central prepared food offerings.
Barrel-aged balsamic vinegars are among the specialty items that might not normally be found in a typical Tops.
Tops plans to test the Orchard Fresh format before rolling it out further.
