NEWARK, Del. — The Produce Marketing Association here has awarded its second annual Foundation for Industry Talent Tip Murphy Scholarship for Leadership Excellence to Nichole Towell, marketing development manager for Duda Farm Fresh Foods in Wellington, Fla. The scholarship will be used for Towell to attend PMA FIT's upcoming Leadership Symposium in Dallas from Jan. 13-15.

The annual symposium is focused on helping attendees “disengage from the day-to-day, and [open] up to new, innovative ways of thinking. … It's about, ‘How does leadership affect my success and the success of my company,’” said Cindy Seel, executive director for PMA FIT. The annual Leadership Symposium features speakers including business authors and management experts, as well as networking events for people throughout the produce industry, including retailers.

“The small size of the event is designed to get attendees personally engaged, and we have a lot of breakouts to deconstruct what the speakers said, and how it can apply to your business and your colleagues' businesses.”

Seel noted that the Tip Murphy Scholarship is open to applicants from the supermarket industry as well, and that PMA FIT would like to see more retailer applicants.
