Retailers Expand Breast Cancer Support With Produce Challenge

ROSEVILLE, Calif. — Harris Teeter, Meijer Inc. and Price Chopper Supermarkets have once again partnered with Pink Ribbon Produce to raise money for breast cancer initiatives while also encouraging customers to eat more fruits and vegetables.

During the month of October, the retailers will donate sales from the purchase of certain produce items to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

New this year, Pink Ribbon Produce and its partners will urge consumers to follow the Fresh Plate Challenge by filling half their plates with fruits and vegetables.

“The Fresh Plate Challenge is a great addition to Pink Ribbon Produce, and we hope it serves to increase the amount of money raised for such a worthwhile program as well as encourage healthy eating habits at each meal,” Danna Jones, communication specialist with Harris Teeter, said in a press release.

Pink Ribbon Produce has launched an Instagram contest as part of the challenge where followers can post photos of their plates with the hashtag #freshplate from Oct. 1-31. One winner will receive a $250 gift card to Harris Teeter, Meijer or Price Chopper; Pink Ribbon Produce will also donate $250 to the National Breast Cancer Foundation in the winner’s name.
