Publix Pairs Weekly Deals With Coupons

LAKELAND, Fla. — Publix Super Markets has introduced a digital tool that matches store sales with manufacturer coupons.

The “Coupon Savings Helper” provides a list of printable coupons from New America Marketing’s SmartSource and Valassis’ RedPlum matched with select weekly sales items.

Publix created the tool to help shoppers get the most savings during their shopping trip, Publix spokeswoman Maria Brous told SN.

“We know it can be difficult to keep up with the paper coupons they may collect each week,” she said. “Now customers have a fast, easy way to plan their savings with minimal work.”

More than a dozen matchups were offered last week. Participating brands included Brawny, Kellogg, Aveeno, Purina, Claritin, Colgate, Dial and Huggies. Total savings range from $1 to $8.95 with the purchase of five of the same product.

To use the matchup database, shoppers first enter their store location. They can then search matchups by keyword, category (pet care, baby care, etc.), source (RedPlum or SmartSource) or distribution date.

Among last week’s savings were Brawny paper towels, Big Rolls, 2-Ply Sheets, 6-roll, on sale at Publix for $6.49 each. When matched with a George-Pacific/Brawny coupon for $1 off 2, the total savings was $7 on 2.

The site also provides a link to other RedPlum and SmartSource coupons.

The new coupon tool is a great benefit for consumers, said Kim Riedell, Valassis’ vice president of digital offers.

“Publix does all the heavy lifting for the consumer, and Valassis is able to reach a broader consumer audience with its FSI coupons,” she said.

News America Marketing agrees.

“We’ve always been big fans of Publix, and we’re excited to see them offering a tool that provides their shoppers with the opportunity for additional savings using SmartSource Magazine,” said Laura Richards, News America’s vice president of communications.
