MONTVALE, N.J. — A&P here said yesterday that it would not comply with the Federal Trade Commission’s request for additional information concerning the antitrust implications of A&P’s proposed acquisition of Pathmark Stores until after June 30. Also, the acquisition will not be completed until at least 60 days after the company has “substantially” complied with the FTC’s request. A&P and Pathmark last month said they had received the request for additional information from the FTC, and A&P yesterday said it is cooperating with the agency and “working toward responding” to the request. The two chains, which both operate most of their stores in the New York-Philadelphia area, announced in March their plans to merge; at the time they said they expected the deal to close late this year.
