AWG to Pursue IGA Business in Southwest

Associated Wholesale Grocers said yesterday it is partnering with IGA to find new IGA customers in Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana — areas that were once IGA strongholds before Fleming Cos. went out of business in 2003.

KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Associated Wholesale Grocers here said yesterday it is partnering with IGA to find new IGA customers in Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana — areas that were once IGA strongholds before Fleming Cos. went out of business in 2003. IGA said it has 14 retail customers in Texas that are supplied by a non-affiliated wholesaler. But with AWG’s acquisition seven weeks ago of a 1.1 million-square-foot former Albertsons facility in Fort Worth, Texas, the wholesaler said it expects to begin supplying IGA-licensed products to new IGA customers in Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana beginning Jan 1. AWG already supplies 61 IGA stores in the South and Midwest from its Nashville, Tenn., distribution center.
