CHARLOTTE — A drive-up grocery chain with a cluster of stores in Southeast Pennsylvania has opened its first location in this market, according to local reports.
Swiss Farms, based in Broomall, Pa., also is eyeing expansion into New Jersey and is planning to launch an online grocery service later this year, according to its website. Company officials could not be reached for comment.
Swiss Farms stores carry only about 800 of the most commonly needed fill-in grocery items, such as milk, bread, eggs, peanut butter and cereal. The Charlotte store is the first to carry beer and wine, according to a report in the Charlotte Observer.
Customers drive up to a window to place their orders, which are then brought out to their cars by store personnel. Swiss Farms has up to five locations planned for the Charlotte market, local reports said. The first Charlotte store is operated by a local licensee, according to the Observer.
