COLLINS TO SUCCEED GROTTKE AS CFO OF IGA

CHICAGO — IGA here said Bob Grottke will retire as chief financial officer Jan. 1 after five and a half years of service, though he will remain with the alliance through 2008 to help with the transition of his duties. He will also continue to serve as chairman of the trustees of the IGA Group Employee Benefit Plan. IGA said Grottke's primary responsibilities will be assumed by John Collins, controller, who will be named vice president, finance, and will report to Mark Batenic, chief executive officer of IGA USA. Collins is a certified CPA who joined IGA as controller in April 2002, after working as director of international finance and administration for Helene Curtis Industries here and for Unilever after it acquired Helene Curtis.

FAMILY DOLLAR NAMES SMITH VP OF MARKETING

MATTHEWS, N.C. — Family Dollar Stores here last week said it has named Donald G. Smith vice president, marketing. He will report to Robert George, executive vice president and chief merchandising officer. “Effectively coordinating our promotional activity with in-store advertising is a critical component of our treasure hunt strategy and other traffic-driving initiatives,” said George. “Don's expertise in small-box retailing and the consumer product industry will help us increase customer traffic through more cost-effective marketing and promotions.” Prior to joining Family Dollar, Smith served as vice president, sales and marketing, at Perrigo Nutrition. He has held similar positions with General Nutrition Centers and Nabisco Foods Group.
