MINNEAPOLIS — The board of directors of Nash Finch Co. here has elected two new directors: former supermarket executive Sam K. Duncan, 55, who is chairman, president and chief executive officer of OfficeMax, and U.S. Army Major Gen. (Ret.) Hawthorne L. “Peet” Proctor, 60, who is managing partner of Proctor & Boone Consulting and a senior logistics consultant in the Department of Defense Business Group at Intelligent Decisions. Prior to joining OfficeMax in 2005, Duncan was president and CEO of ShopKo Stores from 2002 to 2005. From 1992 to 2002 he held a variety of positions at Fred Meyer Inc., including president of Fred Meyer and president of Ralphs Supermarkets. From 1969 to 1992 he was at Albertsons.

TESCO NAMES BATCHELOR U.K. MARKETING DIRECTOR

CHESHUNT, England — Tesco has appointed former Vodafone marketing director Lance Batchelor as its U.K. marketing director, replacing Ian Crook, who has been promoted to marketing director for Internet operations. Batchelor's appointment marks the second major change to the Tesco marketing department since Tim Mason, formerly responsible for global marketing, was promoted to chief executive officer of the retailer's U.S. operations in February. Prior to Vodafone, Batchelor was chief marketing officer and general manager at online retailer Amazon.com, and spent eight years at Procter & Gamble both in the U.K. and the U.S.

GAP APPOINTS LOBLAW VETERAN AS CHAIRMAN, CEO

SAN FRANCISCO — Clothing retailer Gap here said its board of directors has appointed Glenn Murphy to serve as chairman and chief executive officer of the company. Murphy, 45, has more than 20 years of retail experience across three retail sectors: food, health and beauty, and books. Most recently, he served for six years as chairman and CEO of Shoppers Drug Mart, the largest drug store chain in Canada. Prior to that, he held several positions at Loblaw Cos., and before that he was president and CEO of Chapters, a major Canadian book retailer. He succeeds Robert J. Fisher, the current chairman of the board of directors, who has served as interim CEO since January.
