ARLINGTON, Va. -- The Food Marketing Institute here is urging Congress to act on public concerns about credit card interchange fees revealed in a new Harris Interactive poll of more than 2,200 U.S. adults. More than 90% of respondents said that Congress should require credit card companies to be more open about their policies and practices regarding interchange fees, according to FMI. “The message is clear,” said FMI President and Chief Executive Officer Tim Hammonds. “Consumers want full disclosure of these costly, hidden fees. This lack of disclosure prevents shoppers from being able to make rational choices about how they pay for their purchases. Americans don‘t believe this is right and they want Congress to step in to stop it.”
