Giant Plans Third Peapod Pickup Site

LANDOVER, Md. — Ahold’s Giant-Landover chain is constructing a Peapod grocery pickup facility and gas station in Chevy Chase, Md.

The facility, expected to be open in late summer, would be the third dedicated pick-up-point, or PUP, in Giant’s trade area, an Ahold spokeswoman said.

Ahold is expanding such locations throughout its network, citing encouraging results of an initial test last year. In addition to existing sites in Columbia and Clarksville, Md., and the new site in Chevy Chase, Giant is at work on “several others,” the spokeswoman said, but declined to identify sites or opening dates.

Pickup sites allow Ahold to reduce delivery costs on Peapod orders by delivering to a central location with drive-up service.
