Marsh Taps O'Boyle as Chairman, CEO

INDIANAPOLIS — Marsh Supermarkets here said Thursday it has named Thomas R. O’Boyle Jr. (pictured below) as the company’s new chairman, president and chief executive officer.

As previously reported, O’Boyle recently resigned as executive vice president of merchandising, marketing, supply chain and logistics at Montvale, N.J.-based A&P.

“I am honored by this opportunity to lead Marsh, a company that is clearly on the right path toward providing customers with the best grocery shopping experience possible,” O’Boyle said in a statement.

Before joining A&P in 2010, O’Boyle held executive posts at Sears Holdings, Albertsons and Jewel-Osco.

“Tom is an outstanding senior executive who brings over 25 years of successful experience in supermarket merchandising and marketing to his new role,” said Scott King, senior managing director of Sun Capital Partners, an affiliate of which owns Marsh. “We are delighted he has joined the Marsh team, and look forward to his leadership and contributions to the company’s progress as well as ensuring continued focus on serving customers.”

Bill Holsworth, the former chief operating officer at Marsh, had been serving as interim CEO since the departure in May of Joe Kelley, who left to become president of Ahold’s Stop & Shop-New England division.
