Morganthall Slated as Next FMI Chair

PHOENIX — Fred Morganthall, president of Harris Teeter, is slated to become chairman of Food Marketing Institute for the two-year period beginning in May of this year.

PHOENIX — Fred Morganthall, president of Harris Teeter, is slated to become chairman of Food Marketing Institute for the two-year period beginning in May of this year.

Morganthall leads the slate of officers that will be sent to FMI members for approval. He would succeed Ric Jurgens, chairman and chief executive officer of Hy-Vee, whose two-year term ends in May.

Jurgens revealed the new officer slate during a session of the FMI Midwinter Executive Conference here.

Others on the slate with Morganthall are Henry Johnson, president, W. Lee Flowers & Co., as FMI vice chairman of finance; Scott Schnuck, chairman and CEO of Schnuck Markets, as FMI vice chairman of industry relations; Rob Bartels, president and CEO, Martin’s Super Markets, as FMI vice chairman of public affairs; Russell "Tres" Lund, chairman and CEO of Lund Food Holdings, as FMI vice chairman of member services; and Al Plamann, president and CEO, Unified Grocers, as FMI vice chairman of wholesalers-independents.

Meanwhile, Jurgens announced a two-year extension of the industry’s Trading Partner Alliance, a collaboration between FMI and Grocery Manufacturers Association. The alliance was created two years ago.
