BENTONVILLE, Ark. — More than 30 Wal-Mart Stores locations along the East Coast remained closed late Monday following Hurricane Irene, although the company said it had received "no reports of significant damage" at any of its 600 area facilities due to the storm.
"At peak, there were 298 stores and clubs that were closed due to the hurricane. As the storm has moved north, we have reopened 265 of those stores and clubs," the retailer said late Monday in an online post.
The list of closed stores included 10 in Connecticut, four in Massachusetts, three in New Jersey, six in New York, six in Virginia, and one each in Vermont, Maryland and New Hampshire.
Supermarkets closed due to the storm as of Tuesday included 16 Food Lions (12 in Virginia and four in North Carolina) and one Hannaford Bros. in Vermont, both Delhaize America banners; 13 ShopRites (seven in New Jersey, three in Connecticut, two in Maryland and one in New York); and one Shaw's in Vermont.
As of Monday, all Stop & Shop locations that had been closed due to the storm had reopened, a spokeswoman told SN.
