SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — Stater Bros. Markets here said last week it plans to host its first major fund-raiser under a new nonprofit charity it has set up. The event will be a pro-am golf tournament hosted by Dave Stockton, a champion pro golfer and area resident. The tournament will be called "Stater Bros. Presents Dave Stockton's Heroes With Hearts Challenge" and will feature Stockton and "several of his PGA Tour friends," Stater Bros. said. Besides the pros, the event has invited six Medal of Honor recipients to participate in a series of events over the weekend prior to the tournament, which is scheduled for Monday, March 3. Four local charities will benefit from the event, including Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation of the Inland Empire, VA Loma Linda Healthcare System, Operation SafeHouse and The Unforgettables Foundation.
