Safeway CMO Cornell Joins Craft Retailer

Brian Cornell, the former Safeway chief marketing officer and one of the architects of its “Ingredients for Life” campaign and its lifestyle store revamp, yesterday was named chief executive officer of craft retailer Michaels Stores, Michaels said.

IRVING, Texas — Brian Cornell, the former Safeway chief marketing officer and one of the architects of its “Ingredients for Life” campaign and its lifestyle store revamp, yesterday was named chief executive officer of craft retailer Michaels Stores, based here, Michaels said. Cornell succeeds R. Michael Rouleau, who retired last year before the 1,100-store chain was acquired by private investment firms Bain Capital and The Blackstone Group in a transaction valued at more than $6 billion. Safeway, which had previously announced Cornell’s planned departure, has not yet named a successor.
