Straub’s to Develop ‘Destination Store’

ST. LOUIS — Straub’s Markets here said last week that it would develop a 40,000-square-foot “destination” store in Ellisville, Mo. — the first new store in 40 years for the family owned, four-store specialty foods retailer. “Our small store format has worked for us for 106 years. This design, however, will allow us to spread our wings in our current departments and give us the ability to add new departments,” Trip Straub, vice president of Straub’s, said in a statement. “It gives us the opportunity to offer a much greater selection of fresh store-made prepared foods, high quality artisanal products and a greater selection of national brand items.” At 40,000 square feet, the store will be around three times the size of Straub’s current locations and will include room for an in-store eatery and cooking school. It is scheduled to open next summer, the company said.
