Supervalu Sues Unified Over Hire: Report

MINNEAPOLIS — Supervalu here is suing to prevent the former president of its independent wholesale business from working for Los Angeles-based Unified Grocers, according to a local report.

Leon G. Bergmann

Leon Bergmann, who Unified said it has hired as senior vice president of sales at the cooperative wholesaler, has a 12-month non-compete agreement with Supervalu, according to the Milwaukee-St. Paul Business Journal. The article also said Supervalu is accusing Unified of intentionally interfering with Bergmann’s employment agreements.

Bergmann left Supervalu in October.

Last week Unified announced that it had hired both Bergmann and Sue Klug — another former Supervalu president — as chief marketing officer.
