WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. — The bidding for Ahold’s Tops chain here could wrap up within “a couple of months,” according to Burt P. Flickinger III, an industry consultant who is partnering with an investment firm in an effort to buy the 72-store chain. Flickinger, managing director, Strategic Resource Group, New York, told SN yesterday that he is working with a “well-known” investment firm, which he declined to identify, to acquire the chain from its Amsterdam-based parent company and return it to is “hometown-owned and -operated” roots. His interest in the chain was first reported in The Buffalo News yesterday.
