MONTVALE, N.J. - The 13 union locals voting on modifications to their contracts with A&P have approved the changes, as expected, union sources told SN Wednesday, representing the last hurdle in a cost restructuring under bankruptcy for the retailer.

The amended contracts will go to U.S. Bankruptcy Court for approval and a $490 million deal to take A&P out of bankruptcy is expected to be consummated soon afterward.

United Food and Commercial Workers locals 27, 100R, 152, 338, 342, 371, 464A, 1034, 1245, 1262, 1360, 1500 and 1776 voted on modified contracts separately but the votes from each chapter were combined. Of 9,027 votes cast, 7,200 voted to approve and 1,827 voted to reject. There were 23 challenged ballots and 31 blank votes.
