United Supermarkets Buys Local Prepared-Foods Company

United Supermarkets yesterday said it has acquired Praters Foods to augment its own prepared-foods offering and to further expand Praters' offerings nationwide.

LUBBOCK, Texas – United Supermarkets here yesterday said it has acquired Praters Foods, also based here, to augment its own prepared-foods offering and to further expand Praters' offerings nationwide.

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Praters Foods, founded in 1955, operates a 75,000-square-foot facility producing signature holiday dinners, specialty cooked meats, entrees, casseroles, soups and desserts for the retail and foodservice industry under both private labels and the Praters brand.

“The benefits of Praters joining the United family are tremendous for our company,” said Edward Kitten, director of manufacturing for United, in a prepared statement. “They have an outstanding reputation with our guests, and we look forward to the synergies to be developed between the Praters and United brands.”

United, which operates 50 stores in Texas under three banners, said it would retain all of Praters' employees.
