UPDATE: Teamsters End Strike at UNFI Depot

AUBURN, Wash. — Teamsters Local 117 has ended a labor strike against a United Natural Foods Inc. warehouse here, which it had launched earlier this week citing “unfair labor practices.”

In a statement on its website, the union local said the natural, organic and specialty product wholesaler had “refused to negotiate over mandatory subjects of bargaining” and accused it of committing “other unlawful actions” under investigation by the National Labor Relations Board.

The two sides have agreed to resume negotiations on Thursday. “We intend to hold UNFI to its stated commitment to return to the bargaining table and bargain a fair contract in good faith with its employees ,” said Tracey A. Thompson, secretary-treasurer of Teamsters Local 117, in a statement.

The Providence, R.I.-based wholesaler previously had said the union’s claims leading to the strike were “baseless and without merit" and that it would need to hire replacement workers to get through the busy holiday season.
