Village Eyes Replacement Stores, Remodels

SPRINGFIELD, N.J. — Village Super Market expects capital expenditures of approximately $20 million in its new fiscal year, allowing for the construction of two replacement stores and the completion of three major store remodels.

Village, which operates 29 ShopRite stores in three states, is the second-largest member of the Wakefern Food Corp. cooperative. It detailed its 2013 fiscal outlook in an annual report filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission Tuesday. Its fiscal year began July 29.

The retailer totaled $20.8 million in capex during fiscal 2012, which covered several small remodels and the installation of solar panels at one location. During fiscal 2012, sales per store were $50 million and sales per square foot of selling space were $1,112, which Village said were among the most productive in the industry.
