LAS VEGAS — Mary Ellen Gowin, vice president, consumer and corporate communications, Wakefern Food Corp., has been selected to receive the Woman of the Year Award from the Woman Grocers of America this week at the National Grocers Association Annual Convention here. The award recognizes NGA members for their contributions to their company’s success. In her 24-year career, Gowin’s accomplishments have included expanding the role of consumer affairs to incorporate the “voice of the customer” in corporate decision making, establishing an internal customer satisfaction committee, creating the company’s first 1-800 number for customer service, and establishing a mystery shopping program, NGA said. She also has been active in consumer education and in environmental initiatives.
