Island Pacific to close a half-dozen stores

California-based retailer begins liquidation sales at affected locations

Island Pacific Seafood Market, a Filipino food retail chain, plans to shut six of its stores in California.

Tiger Capital Group LLC, part of a joint venture overseeing the closings, said Wednesday that liquidation sales are under way at the stores, located in National City, San Jose, American Canyon, Rancho Cucamonga, Chula Vista and Los Angeles.

The remaining 17 Island Pacific stores will operate as usual. Tiger Capital said the retailer is consolidating operations to drive more efficiencies.

Founded in 2000 in Panorama City, Calif., Island Pacific stores are primarily located in Southern and Northern California. The chain, which specializes in Filipino cuisine, also has two locations in Las Vegas and one in Seattle.

Liquidation discounts will continue until all merchandise has been sold at the stores being closed, according to Tiger Capital. Select fixtures, furnishings and equipment in the stores also are up for sale.
