Key Food Stores Co-Operative on Friday will hold opening ceremonies for another SuperFresh store taking the space of a former A&P location.
The store in New York's Staten Island, is the third to open under the SuperFresh brand since Key Food also acquired that banner during A&P's bankruptcy. The company previously rebranded stores in Paterson, N.J., and Bloomfield, N.J., under the SuperFresh name.
The 40,000-square-foot former Waldbaums site features an expanded produce department featuring natural and organic groceries, a new "Juice 2 Fit" juice bar, sushi and other Asian prepared foods.
The store is partnering with local purveyors for bakery and floral items. La Dolce Amici Bakery provides pastries, ice cream cakes available for custom order and fresh bagels daily. The floral department offers arrangements from Flowers by Bernard, Key Food said.
The store also includes an olive bar, a Boars Head deli, a full line of craft and imported beer, and a pharmacy.
“The SuperFresh motto is ‘Better store. Better living.’ and that’s definitely something we’ve put into practice with this new shopping experience,” store owner Sam Abed said. “We’re so excited to bring a grocery store back to the neighborhood and so happy that we could employ over 150 Staten Islanders in the process.”
Local officials and Key Food executives will be on hand for an opening ceremony Friday at the store, located at 6400 Amboy Rd.
