Angelo Gordon Supermarkets, which operates the Kings Food Markets and Balducci’s banners in the Northeast, have begun receiving goods from Wakefern Food Corp. as part of an intended switch from troubled wholesaler White Rose, sources told SN.
The parent company of White Rose, Associated Wholesalers Inc., last month filed for protection under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy code, and is expected to be sold at an auction later this month. C&S Wholesale Grocers appears to be the leading candidate to acquire AWI.
Karen Melta, a spokeswoman for Wakefern Food Corp., on Friday confirmed the relationship, saying in a statement: "Wakefern Food Corp. is happy to welcome Kings Supermarkets to our roster of wholesale customers. We will be supplying a number of frozen, dairy and grocery items for their 25 stores in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut."
