DAYTON, Ohio — Dorothy Lane Market chose to postpone its annual whole salmon sidewalk sale after it received a shipment of Wild Coho Salmon overnighted from Alaska.
“We’re sorry to report that our fish didn’t travel well and aren’t up to our usual quality standards so we’re going to have to postpone our Sidewalk Salmon Sale,” the chain wrote on Facebook.
Dorothy Lane Market donated the fish — 5 to 7 pounds in average weight — to Foodbank Dayton and Heaven’s Corner Zoo & Animal Sanctuary. The event had been scheduled for two full days over Labor Day weekend.
Customers posting on Facebook were pleased with the retailer’s quality control efforts, even though it meant cancelling the event. One shopper wrote, “Kudos to DLM for making the choice of quality over revenue!”
