Trader Joe's Updates Customers on Sustainable Seafood

MONROVIA, Calif. — Trader Joe’s Co. got specific about its sustainable seafood considerations in an update to its website.

Trader Joe's said it changed its sourcing from Southeast Asia to the U.S. Pacific for frozen swordfish and updated the acceptable fishing methods for canned yellowtail tuna and canned albacore tuna. Trader Joe’s warned there may be “gaps in supply” as it makes the changeovers for these products.

The post also gave an overview of the retailer’s move to create standards for farmed shrimp and salmon, and reaffirmed Trader Joe’s commitment not to sell genetically engineered salmon.

In the future, the retailer said it would provide monthly updates on sustainable seafood initiatives.
