MONTREAL — The SIAL Canada trade show will begin alternating every other year between Montreal and Toronto, the show's organizers said last month.

This year's SIAL Canada trade show — part of the SIAL network of five food-related trade shows staged around the world — will take place April 21-23 at the Palais des Congres Montreal, where it has traditionally been held. Next year the event shifts to Toronto's Metro Convention Centre. It is scheduled for May 11-13, 2011.

This year's show in Montreal is expected to host more than 530 exhibitors from 30 countries and attract 12,000 food-industry professionals. Among the attractions are new special sections devoted to fair trade, foodservice, kosher, organic Halal and private-label products. The U.S. Pavilion is slated to hold 34 booths, including exhibits from the International Dairy-Deli-Bakery Association, the Association of Food Industries and the American Cheese Society.

Also returning to SIAL Canada will be the “Trends and Innovations” competition and the Olive d'Or olive oil competition.

The show's “Cuisine” event will showcase foodservice trends and the crossover into retail.
