The Daily Table, a new not-for-profit supermarket, opened June 4 in Dorchester, Mass.
Founded by former Trader Joe’s president Doug Rauch, the Daily Table’s mission is to provide affordable, wholesome food. Rudy Rubenis, former regional VP of Whole Foods, serves as executive director and COO.
Daily Table keeps prices low through food donations, as well by sourcing overstocks, blemished produce and food that is past the sell-by date printed on the package, but still safe to eat.
A variety of prepared foods, shelf-stable groceries and produce is available. Organic turnips sells for 99 cents a pound.
