Cub Tests Antibacterial Reusable Bags

MINNEAPOLIS — The Cub Foods division of Supervalu here is testing an antibacterial, antimicrobial, lead-free reusable bag, according to the bag's manufacturer, Go Clean, based in Santa Monica, Calif.

Supervalu officials could not be reached for comment.

According to Jason Sydney, president of Go Clean, the bags are coated in chitosan, an eco-friendly solution that contains no heavy metals and that inhibits growth of bacteria, microorganisms and fungi. He said the bags have been approved by the Environmental Protection Agency. Sydney said the bags are being offered at Cub for $2.49.
