Cornell Heads PepsiCo Americas Food

PURCHASE, N.Y. — After stepping down as president and chief executive officer of Sam’s Club in January, former PepsiCo executive Brian Cornell has rejoined the company as CEO of PepsiCo Americas Food. Cornell replaces John Compton who has been named president, PepsiCo, effective immediately.

The changes are part of a new global structure under which regions will retain ownership of P&L and global groups will work across regions.

Cornell will report to Indra Nooyi, who remains chairman and CEO of PepsiCo. He will be responsible for Frito-Lay North America, Quaker Foods and Snacks North America, PepsiCo Mexico, South America Foods, PepsiCo customer teams and all Power of One activities within the Americas.

As president, Compton will assume responsibility for Global Beverages, Global Snacks and Global Nutrition, Global Operations, Global Marketing Services and Corporate Strategy. He will work with regional sectors to drive innovation and build brands while reducing PepsiCo’s cost structure.

Prior to transforming sales at Sam’s Club, Cornell was CEO of Michaels and chief marketing officer for Safeway.

“Brian’s strategic vision and deep experience across several industries provide a unique perspective to our senior leadership team,” said Nooyi, in a statement. “He has successfully led transformational agendas at his assignments at Sam’s Club and Safeway and is well-versed in what it takes to be a senior executive of a large public company.”
