BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- Giant Food Markets, a 12-store retailer here, is the first merchant to go live with the Internet Protocol (IP)-based version of the IPPPAYS bill payment and prepaid processing system running on the Verifone 37xx terminal, IPP of America, Fairfield, N. J., announced this week. “We use the IPP as our primary payment processor to provide electronic walk-in bill payment services and prepaid wireless and long distance to our consumers,” said a spokesperson for Giant Food Markets, in a statement. “With over 8,000 payment transactions taken a month in 12 locations, a dial-up terminal was simply too slow to provide the level of customer service we strive for.” Bill payment and prepaid cellular is part of a program at Giant Food Markets called Market Teller, which also includes ATM, check cashing and refills.
