Meijer Asking Some Suppliers to Generate Own Restocking Orders

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Meijer here will now require suppliers participating in a scan-based trading program to generate their own replenishment orders, according to Prescient Applied Intelligence, West Chester, Pa. To that end, Meijer has partnered with one of its major suppliers in a pilot program of Prescient’s new Store Level Replenishment (SLR) system, which Prescient made generally available yesterday. SLR provides visibility into daily store-level product movement and generates orders based on near-real-time POS data, Prescient said. “The SLR pilot program includes about a dozen stores,” said Tim Cronk, supply chain planner at Meijer, in a statement. “We are using the pilot phase to set benchmarks and expectations for the 150-plus store rollout, currently planned for early 2008.” Under the scan-based trading arrangement, the supplier maintains ownership of the inventory until it scans out at the POS.
