Delhaize Gets 12th Straight Energy Star Award

SALISBURY, N.C. — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has recognized Delhaize America banners Food Lion, Harveys and Reid's with their 12th consecutive Energy Star Sustained Excellence award for superior energy efficiency.

The 2013 Partner of the Year Sustained Excellence Awards are given to a select group of organizations that have exhibited outstanding leadership year after year. These winners have reduced greenhouse gas emissions by setting and achieving aggressive goals, and employing innovative energy efficiency approaches.

"We are honored to receive this Energy Star Partner of the Year Sustained Excellence award for the twelfth year and are committed to increasing energy efficiency in our stores," Susan Sollenberger, director of energy, maintenance and equipment purchasing at Delhaize America South, in a statement.

"The companies lead the field with their commitment to energy efficiency and demonstrate how all Americans can save energy, save money, and create a healthier environment," said Bob Perciasepe, acting administrator, EPA.

Since 2000, Food Lion, Harveys and Reid's have reduced energy consumption by more than 31%, or 2.8 trillion BTUs. The banners are part of Delhaize America, the U.S. division of Belgium-based Delhaize Group.
