RUSHFORD, Minn. — The Rushford IGA here and two other stores in Southeastern Minnesota also owned by Rush Foods have installed glass doors onto previously open cases to save energy costs and maintain temperature consistency.
Remis America, Elkhart, Ind., has installed 84 feet of its black RemiSafe doors at the Rushford IGA, 16 feet of gray doors at Harmony IGA and 88 feet of black doors at Preston IGA. In addition, Remis installed 42 feet of black Ecosafe island covers at the Rushford location.
Remis also upgraded existing case lighting to LEDs to help save energy and improve visibility and product display.

For Rush Foods, the estimated annual kilowatt-hour (kwh) savings at each store is 5,367 kwh for Harmony, 40,757 kwh for Preston and 39,558 kwh for Rushford, based on data provided by Tri-County Electric Cooperative.
The doors also deliver temperature consistency that “will not only extend the shelf life of our fresh foods, but also it will keep foods fresh longer in our customers’ refrigerators,” said Brad Hoiness, co-owner/operations manager, Rush Foods, in a statement.
