Macey’s Launches Digital Rewards Program

SALT LAKE CITY — Associated Food Stores, a cooperative wholesaler here, has announced that “Perks,” a customer relationship program, is being used at Macey’s, a retail member.

The purpose of Perks, powered by software from Accelitec, Bellingham, Wash., is to supply shoppers with additional incentives beyond traditional discount pricing techniques. The system will provide AFS’ retail members with a platform for marketing and real-time redemption of digital offers and promotions, helping to establish a one-to-one relationship with its shoppers.

Macey’s, which operates 11 stores in the Utah Market, signed with Accelitec in July to integrate its software into the Retailer Owned Research Corp, (RORC) point-of-sale system, a proprietary technology owned by a group of independent U.S. wholesalers.

“With today’s launch of the Macey’s Perks program, our customers can earn points for a free turkey at Thanksgiving and money that can be put into their ‘happy wallet’ to spend, along with other benefits, in the store,” said Jason Sokol, AFS’ director of marketing.

Many of AFS’ other retail brands, including Dick’s, Lin’s, Dan’s and Fresh Market, are scheduled “to aggressively engage with this solution,” said Sokol.

This announcement follows AFS’ September announcement of a partnership with Google that will enable shoppers to find and redeem digital coupons, as well as pay with a tap of their phone, using Google Wallet.
