Target Watched for Cultural Content in Canada: Report

MINNEAPOLIS — Canadian authorities will be monitoring Target’s expansion to Canada to see if the retailer will be of cultural benefit to the country, published reports said.

A Reuters report said James Moore, Canada’s heritage minister, ordered the investigation late last month to see whether the company would provide enough Canadian content in the goods it sells, such as books.

Target plans to open hundreds of stores in Canada beginning early next year.

A Target spokesperson in the Reuters report said such investigations were “standard.”
