Lempert says retailers like Publix, Whole Foods, Kroger, Wegmans and Trader Joe’s “really think about their associates in a sustainable way. It’s not just about an hourly wage.” Orgel adds: “The formula is quite simple: Learning best practices, putting in good talent, convincing them to stick with us and grow, and making them believe they will be advanced.”
