Wegmans announces ice recall.

Metal fragments, along with some ice cubes, certainly will spoil any cool beverage.

Wegmans has recalled 7-pound and 18-pound bags of ice sold between Jan. 1 and June 10, 2014 at its stores in New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania, except Erie, Pa. Wegmans has locations in Ocean, Manalapan, Woodbridge, Bridgewater and West Windsor.

The ice may contain metal pieces from a broken part of a machine that produces the ice, posing a possible choking hazard.

About 6,000 bags of potentially affected ice were sold. The company said automated calls will be placed to customers who purchased the ice and used their Shoppers Club card.

Neither injuries nor shards found by customers were reported. The problem was discovered during a routine maintenance check of the equipment.

Customers may return the product for a full refund.
